Our story
Growing up in a military family, and attending high school in Okinawa Japan, Zimri T. Hinshaw founded Rheom Materials driven by a dream: to design bōsōzoku-style leather jackets inspired by the Japanese youth subculture surrounding his time in Japan.
However, a problem emerged: as a long-time vegan and environmentalist, he refused to use animal or synthetic leather, but no ethical alternatives existed.
So Hinshaw got to work, creating his first versions of Shorai™ in his college dorm room, then in a laboratory in his parent’s basement during the pandemic, before finally finding roots in Houston, TX.
Rheom Material’s vision has remained the same: to create a world where ethical, sustainable materials are accessible to all.
