Sustainable materials-maker Rheom Materials has set it sights on the Lone Star State. The eco-friendly fiber company has relocated its headquarters from New York City to Houston’s start-up innovation and manufacturing hub East End Maker Labs, it was announced Friday. They will also join climate-tech incubator Greentown Labs as a member.
“The question for us was, how do we get to market at a similar timeline as [mycelium] and not do all that? And the answer was use a composite material and slot it into an existing industrial network of machines.” Zimri Hinshaw, CEO
Note: Bucha Bio rebranded to Rheom Materials in January 2024 to better reflect their process and offerings. The new name combines the Greek word "rhéō" (meaning "flow") and "form," describing how a melt-extruder works, where the biopolymers flow into place and then solidify, or form, the final product.
